Singapore Airlines Airbus A380 to Singapore

Paris to Changi on, yet another SIA super jumbo

Even though I have already published an economy class trip report aboard Singapore Airlines’ Airbus A380, I have decided against condensing the return legs of our 2018 trip to Europe into a single post, although I might not continue posting them in chronological order, so there is a bit of variety.

After a few days in Paris, we were back to the airport to begin our journey home, our first leg was CDG-SIN on flight SQ335, aboard Airbus A380-800 9V-SKM. Charles du Gaulle Airport was typically chaotic, and after finding our way through the masses of taxis, we got inside to discover that the bag drop conveyor belts were out of service, with the check-in staff directing us just to leave the bags sitting out in the concourse!

Once through the circular 70s time machine that is Terminal 1, we were up and out to the satellite where our eight year old A380 was waiting. While trying to ignore the disconcerting presence of patrolling machine gun wielding officers that are present seemingly everywhere in Paris, I got a little bit of plane spotting in, including my first photograph of a Boeing 737-400. LZ-CGW, operated by Bulgarian carrier, Cargo Air, was converted to a freighter only a month after that photo!

Boarding was another chaotic affair, and as I was seated right in the middle, in 59E, I didn’t get any more opportunities for spotting or filming. Departure was smooth, and we were soon cruising over southern Europe and the Mediterranean. Lunch was served promptly, the main consisting of “Pan Fried Tomato-Olive Crusted Chicken, with sweetcorn polenta, vegetables and chunky tomato sauce”.

I selected the European option

As we were flying eastwards, it was not long before the sun set, and I slept for the next few hours.

Breakfast over the Bay of Bengal

I woke just as the crew came round with breakfast, and enjoyed my seafood noodles while watching a few movies.

Landing in Singapore just before sunrise

Our descent and landing in Singapore were uneventful as usual, and we soon disembarked, before heading back over to the airport hotel to catch up on sleep and prepare for the next few days in the Garden City.

Another excellent hotel room view

I hope you have enjoyed this Singapore Airlines trip report, I haven’t quite decided what I’ll post as my next trip report, either upper deck on the A380, or the Par Avion Cessna 404 trip to Cape Barren Island. Either way, don’t forget to check back in next Sunday!
